We recently had the privilege of servicing a breathtaking 2016 Audi R8 V10+, ensuring this supercar continues to deliver the extraordinary performance it’s renowned for. At this level of engineering, maintenance isn’t just about longevity—it’s about preserving every ounce of precision, responsiveness, and thrill the R8 provides on the road.
For this visit, the customer requested a major service which includes an engine oil and filter change along with spark plug replacement. The customer also wanted a complete refresh of drivetrain fluids to keep the car performing at its best, so the service was upgraded to include brake fluid, gearbox oil, front differential oil and haldex oil.
Spark Plugs
The Audi R8's naturally aspirated V10 relies on a strong, consistent spark for efficient combustion and maximum performance. We replaced all ten OE spark plugs to maintain reliable ignition, smooth power delivery, and optimal engine performance.
Thanks to the R8's mid-engine layout, access is extremely limited. Sections of the engine bay trim must be removed and even then, the compact packaging of the V10 leaves very little room to work.
Engine Oil
We replaced the engine oil and filter with premium, OE-approved oil to reduce friction, protect internal components, and maintain the V10's legendary smoothness. Unlike a conventional wet-sump engine, the Audi R8's V10 uses a dry-sump lubrication system, which stores oil in a separate reservoir to ensure consistent oil pressure during hard cornering. This design also makes servicing more involved, requiring all five drain plugs to be removed to completely drain the system before refilling with fresh oil to the correct specification and level.
Gearbox Oil
The Audi R8's dual-clutch transmission depends on clean, high-quality oil to lubricate gears, bearings, clutches, and the hydraulic control system. During the service, we replaced the gearbox oil and transmission filter with OE-approved components, helping to maintain fast, precise gear changes, protect internal components from wear, and ensure consistent transmission performance.
Front Differential & Haldex Oil
The R8's quattro drivetrain relies on the front differential, final drive, and Haldex system working together to deliver exceptional traction and stability. We replaced the oils in each to ensure optimum lubrication and long-term reliability. Regular Haldex oil changes are particularly important, as the pump is difficult to access and replace. Keeping the oil clean helps protect the pump from contamination and premature wear, reducing the likelihood of costly repairs.
Auxiliary Belt and Tensioner
This R8 had a squeaking auxiliary belt, particularly noticeable after washing the car. The plan was to replace the belt and see if it resolved the issue. During the service, we discovered the tensioner was partially seized and also needed replacement. After installing the new belt and tensioner, the customer has since reported that the car no longer squeaks—whether after a wash or leaving it in the rain—restoring both reliability and peace of mind.
Brake Fluid
For ultimate braking performance, we replaced the brake fluid with Motul RBF660, a high-performance fluid with a high dry boiling point that provides a consistent pedal feel and greater resistance to brake fade during demanding driving.
